The halters

Why do I need one?

Our rope halters offer much clearer communication between you and your horse. Here’s why they are essential:

  • Enhanced Communication: The feel from these halters and the correct lead rope is amazing. Even the slightest tap or rub on the lead rope is felt by the horse.
  • Building Bonds: This sensitive response helps build a beautiful bond with your horse. By allowing your horse the time and space to figure out what you want, you encourage learning without force or excessive pressure. Promoting gentle and effective training.

While there are many rope halters available, ours stand out for several key reasons:

  • Comfort: this is a priority for the horse
  • 100% Guaranteed fit – Not available from anywhere else.
  • New Design with no knots over the nose band. Far better for the horse.
  • Carefully Placed Knots: For those who still want the knots, they are specifically placed so not to cause any harm to the horses’ sensitive facial nerves.
  • Hand-Tied in on your yard: Each halter is meticulously measured and hand-tied by me, ensuring the highest quality, perfect it and attention to detail.
  • Local, High-Quality Materials: We use locally sourced, soft 100% polyester yacht rope, known for its durability and comfort.
  • No Metal Parts: Our halters are free of metal parts, reducing the risk of injury and ensuring your horse’s comfort. Combined with my training lead ropes which also have no metal parts, far better for the horse and for the feel.
  • Eco-Friendly: For each halter sold, a tree gets planted, contributing to a healthier planet.

Please see the video on this page, to see how to tie and not to tie a halter onto a horse. Demonstrated by Anna Bonnage Horsemanship.

Zenozoic Halters are designed with the horse’s comfort and welfare in mind, offering several key differences:

  • Made to Measure, On-Site Fitting – Each halter is custom-fitted to your horse in person, ensuring a perfect fit for any size, from tiny ponies to large drafts. No guesswork, no DIY measurements—just a halter that fits beautifully.
  • Softer, Kinder Rope – I use a thicker, locally sourced, 100% polyester yacht rope that’s strong, durable, and gentle on the horse’s face. With the nose knots removed, it’s comfortable even for sensitive young horses and ponies. I firmly believe with the right training for human, the knots are not needed.
  • No Metal – My halters do not have any metal parts and when combined with my training lead ropes, which also don’t have any heavy metal clips, this combination offers the best feel and connection to your horse.
  • Handcrafted in Devon – Every halter  is tied by hand with attention to detail and quality, with no metal components that could cause discomfort.
  • Sustainability Matters – For every halter sold, a tree is planted—because caring for horses should go hand in hand with caring for the planet.

Zenozoic Halters aren’t just tack—they’re a carefully designed, horse-friendly choice for those who put welfare first.

Sorry, but no. Each horse should have their own halter tailored specifically for them and their training needs. Here’s why:

  • Proper Fit: Ensures the halters doesn’t move into their eyes. Allows the horse room to open their mouth comfortably. All knots are in the right place to avoid any pressure points and the halter sits high enough to avoid the horse’s soft cartilage and facial nerves.
  • Comfort: A custom fit allows the horse to open their mouth fully, so they can yawn, ensuring no restriction and maximum comfort.
  • Portability: Our halters are made from soft rope that folds quite small to fit in your pocket, and they are lighter to carry than most other more traditional halters.
  • Personalisation: We offer personalisation for each halter, so it’s uniquely yours.

Yes! You can add reins to them or you can keep it on under your usual bridle, to help with leading and not having to take reins over their heads.

With the correct safe and welfare based training, then yes.

The fitting service

How far will you travel for fitting?

How does the travel charge work?

  • The first 15 miles each way (30 miles round trip) from my base are included in the fitting fee. After that, mileage is charged at 45p per mile.
  • For example:
    If you’re 50 miles away, that’s a 100-mile round trip.
Minus the 30 miles included, you’d only be charged for the remaining 70 miles.
  • The total mileage is worked out using Google Maps (fastest route) from my base in North Devon.
  • Please don’t worry if you are far away (UK only !!) I will look into finding others in your area or coordinate a fitting when I’m out and about on my travels now I’m in the van! I will be posting on my socials where I will be going, so keep an eye out for those.
  • I’m going to be setting up a tour of Britain to hopefully get around to as many places as possible and to also reduce everyone’s fuel costs if shared among many.
  • Onsite 2 hour Visit:
  • £55 per halter with knots on the nose band.
  • £65 per halter without the knots on the noseband.

Preparation for Your Visit

Please ensure your horse is in the stable, or somewhere secure, with a groomed head, rather than out in the field covered in mud.

  1. I will introduce myself to your horse and assess their comfort level with the measuring process.
  2. Once your horse is relaxed, I will take the necessary measurements.
  3. I will then prepare the halter in my van and return a few times for additional checks along the way, then for a final fitting, finishing off with adding the splicing and my logo and stitching the knots to ensure stability.

This entire process should take no more than 90 minutes or up to 2 hours with the new halter.

If you’re new to rope halters and horsemanship training, I will demonstrate how to ensure your horse is attentive to you before proceeding. I will also guide you on how to properly tie the halter, ensuring you feel comfortable doing it yourself before I leave.

  • If horses are located at different places nearby, it’s not a problem.
  • For horses further apart, please contact me to discuss the best approach.
