Horses have always held a special place in my heart, bringing me calm and joy from a young age. Though my passion began early, it wasn’t until I turned 12 that I finally had the chance to ride.
Life, however, took a different course when a series of accidents, not all horse-related I hasten to add, led to back injuries. At 18, I had to make the painful decision to leave the equestrian world, stepping away from my dream of working with horses.
Now, 30+ years later, I’ve come full circle and found my way back, and it brings me immense happiness. While owning a horse would be a dream come true, I know and respect my limitations. Only those who share my love for horses can truly understand the peace and fulfilment they bring. Their gentle nature makes everything better; to me, horses feel like home.
Years ago, I was introduced to Natural Horsemanship by my sister-in-law, Debbie, and I’ve been fascinated ever since, eager to learn and contribute in any way I can.
My return to this world was sparked by an opportunity to learn from the incredibly talented local saddler, Di Banks. She taught me the intricate art of hand-tying rope halters, which paved the way for my long-held dream of starting my own business following a number of redundancies and the need for some stability.
At first, I envisioned my business as simply crafting halters and sending them out with my label attached. However, conversations with Anna from Anna Bonnage Horsemanship and feedback from Sabrina Snell (Endurance with Stripes) opened my eyes to a key issue: horses don’t always fit into standard sizes. That realisation changed everything. As I became more focused on getting the fit exactly right, I also found myself becoming increasingly stressed about where I was placing the knots over the horse’s nose. I wanted to create a design that removed that worry while continuing to prioritise the horse’s comfort and welfare. This led to the development of my Evolution Halter, which is now the only halter design I make. I offer it in several ways, from a fully made-to-measure halter fitted on-site, to my D.I.Y. Measuring Guide for those who want to measure their own horse, as well as my Safe-Fit range for those looking for a simpler, ready-sized option. Whatever route you choose, the aim remains the same: getting the best possible fit without compromising on welfare comfort.

Many people have asked me about the name “Zenozoic.” It’s a blend of my two passions, geology (as a Geoscientist) and Reiki (as an Animal Reiki Practitioner). The name comes from the Cenozoic Era, the geological age we live in today, when many modern animals, including horses, began to evolve. Zenozoic represents not only my journey but also the connection and harmony I strive to foster between humans and horses.
It is pronounced – Zen-o-zo-ick
Zenozoic Halters is all about celebrating the special bond we share with our horses. It’s a name that stands for evolution, balance, and most importantly, a deep respect for these incredible animals. Because let’s face it, they’re not just horses, they’re family.
